10 Tips To Improve Your Day
Is every day a great day? Does life always go your way? Well of course not, but that doesn't mean you have to sit back and let life or things that happen in life drag you down. An attitude of gratitude can go a long way. So here are a few tips to make a good day better or turn a bad day around...
Each day is how we choose to view it and what we make of it....
10. Don't Sweat The Small Stuff
Does it really matter if the kids left the toilet seat up? Or the dogs chewed up your phone cord? Or your stuck in traffic? Yes, might be frustrating, but so much that it makes a bad day? You need to ask yourself "Does it really matter?" You can teach kids to put the seat down (although this is a big feat!). You can get another phone cord. You can listen to some music or talk show while you wait in traffic (hopefully you aren't late for work). The point is you can find the good in any situation or not let the little stuff get to you and ruin your day. Focus on what really matters! Why let something insignificant become significant?
9. Compliment Others
If you are having a crumby day, try giving someone a compliment. This accomplishes two things. Gets your mind off of yourself and creates a happy mood. Strike up an upbeat conversation with someone and you soon realize you will forget your woes. Chances are you will even get a compliment back adding to the positive cycle. Plus you can really brighten someones day! It's like the old saying, "if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all".
8. Do Something Nice For Someone Else
This goes along with complimenting someone else, but takes it a step further. Try doing an act of service or kindness. Buy someone's lunch in front of you in line. Make the bed for your spouse. Do the dishes. Take out the trash. Make your spouses favorite desert. Take a treat to your neighbor. You get the idea, the list goes on and on. The point is do a simple random act of kindness. It will brighten your day and those you serve.
7. Don't Get So Easily Offended
Now days, people are too easily offended, getting dragged down into anger, sadness and hate. That's not to say you can't be offended when there is reason, but that reason shouldn't be something so simple. We all need a bit thicker skin. Did someone make some rude comment? Maybe, but who knows what kind of day they are having. Is that an excuse? No! But why take things so personal and drag ourselves down? Learn to let some things roll off your shoulders and move on.
6. Find Something Productive to Do
Nothing helps feed self pity more than being idle. Your thoughts run wild, you self criticize and sink further down to unhappiness. So get up and do something! Does it mean you need to go do some huge task you've had on your to do list, or my case the honey do list? No! Just do something, even if that something is organizing you phone contacts... By doing this you will feel more accomplished and chances are, doing that one thing will lead to doing something else.
5. Do Something For Yourself
Now this one is important! It's good do do things for others and get our daily tasks done, but we also need to take time for ourselves. Does that mean we spend the whole day on ourselves? Of course not, but we should devote some time, even if it is only 10 mins. Work on a hobby, read a book, play a musical instrument, research an interesting topic, do that thing that you enjoy for some time in a day.
4. Don't Get Sucked Into Negativity
We all know someone who is a negative person, or that person could be ourselves. We sometimes are our worst enemy! Important thing is not to let negativity drive our lives. I try to steer clear of negative people and negativity in general. That doesn't mean if some friend is having a bad day I de-friend them. What it means is I don't allow truly negative people around me and my life. I have been through too much and had too many negative experiences, I just don't need it. Since negativity is usually all around us, it is important to not let it creep in and take over. Rise above it, let it go and move on! Why let it ruin your day?! Push negativity away to improve your day...
3. Learn From Your Bad Experiences
Instead of wallowing is self pity or getting upset when something doesn't go our way, try to learn from the situation and any mistakes you made. Now not everything bad in our lives is due to a mistake we made, but if we did make one, instead of ripping into ourselves, we should try to understand why we made the mistake and how to remedy it. Other times we may have something bad happen to us and it's not our fault. Look at it and think what can be learned from it to prevent it or be ready for it next time it happens.
2. Have a Good Laugh
Laughing is a great way to boost endorphins and serotonin levels. Laughing will make you feel better period! So find something to laugh about. Watch a funny video. Hang out with that "funny friend". Try to make someone else laugh so you can laugh too. Bottom line is laugh!
1. Have an Attitude of Gratitude
To sum this all up, it really comes down to having an attitude of gratitude. Are we the glass half full or half empty type of person? Can we be grateful for what we do have and not envious for what we don't? Can we find the good in the bad? For example, if you knew there was a 1 kt diamond in a cow pie would you try and find it? I sure would, so why not do that with our lives? Now I know this is not easy. Does that mean I've never had a bad day? Heavens no! In fact, I have had some terrible days and I am sure I will have more, but these things are things that have helped pull myself out of a rut and get back on track. Anything I can do to improve my day is a step in the right direction.
