Top 10 Things Technology Has Made Obsolete
We have been blessed to live in a day and age with awesome technology and progress. But that means that some things have been made obsolete and gone the way of the dinosaur. So here is a list of my top 10 things that are now obsolete because of technology....
10. Hand Written Letters
People hardly write hand written letters anymore. Now they still exist and people send birthday cards for example, but no one communicates life events or just life updates via hand written snail mail. We now have social media, email and testing to do that.
9. Memorize Phone Numbers
Man, I used to know all my friends numbers by heart. I could call anyone I cared about with out a contact or looking it up. Now I am lucky to remember my own phone number let alone anyone else's. We now have handy smart phones that store all that for us. Heaven forbid we lose our phone and stored contacts or we would be lost...
8. Physical Maps
Back in the day when you traveled somewhere you had to have a physical map. Even when technology started improving with things like Yahoo maps, you still had to print out those directions and take them with you. If you got off track, good luck! You would have to fall back to a printed map to find your way, or ask directions. Now days we have our handy smart phones that can get us from A to B. I even like to use mine if I know where I'm going just to see traffic and ride times to my location.
7. Watch Live TV
Who watches live TV anymore? Very rarely I will if I am just zoning out or not really paying attention while doing something else. We now have DVR amd online streaming to thank for not having to sit through long commercials.
6. Pagers
Back in the day, if you had a pager, you were the real deal, you were someone important! Bad thing about pagers is you had to find a phone if you got paged. So I can see why these didn't last that long... lol
5. Pay Phones
There used to be pay phones on every corner it seemed. Now I can't remember the last time I saw one except for in an old movie.
4. Tube TV/Monitors
TVs and computer monitors used to be huge beasty things that sometimes required a few people to move. I once got a TV from a friend that was an old HD Tube TV. That sucker weighed 265 lbs! Might as well have been a piano! At any rate, I am glad to have have TVs I can just hang on my wall.
3. Movie Rental Stores
Long gone are the days when it's a Friday night and you ran to the video store to rent a movie to watch with friends. Now they have vending machines in places, but most people just stream them online. We can pretty much just stay in our homes 24/7 now days if we really wanted to.
2. Camera Film
Who even has a camera now days? Well, I do since my wife is a photographer, but most people just use their smart phones. Long gone are the times when you had to run your film to the store to get developed although you still can. Most people now days just have digital copies of pictures. We do try to print out good ones from time to time just so we have hard copies.
1. Dial Up Internet
I chose this as my #1 because man, I am glad this is gone! Remember the days when you had to fight over the phone line? If you were lucky your family got a separate line just for the internet, but you still could only have one person on at a time and it was snail slow! Thanks goodness for WIFI and LTE internet.
